Read How Impact Commercial Windows Are Actually Tested

If you run a business or own a house in Florida, you know the importance of hurricane prep. That said, it can be difficult to decide on what you should be investing your money in to ensure your building or buildings are protected. Impact commercial windows are one such investment that can greatly strengthen your building against a storm, but most people don’t know what actually goes into creating a stormproof window and how they’re tested to make sure they’ll hold up. At Florida Engineered Glass Corp. we sell the best hurricane windows and doors Miami has to offer, so we’ve taken upon ourselves to explain how our windows are tested and why you should invest in them.

How Our Impact Commercial Windows Are Tested

The two main types of tests conducted on impact windows are pressure and impact. For pressure, the windows go through The Cyclical Test. This test involves the window being put in a pressure chamber and having to endure 4,500 positive and then 4,500 negative cycles. If it can survive these tests, it passes for pressure. The impact test is The Missile Test and is made up of two different tests depending on the size of the building receiving the impact windows. There’s the Large Missile Test where a missile that’s two inches by four inches and weighs nine pounds is shot out of a cannon going fifty feet per second at the impact window. For the window to pass it must survive this test twice. If a building is less than thirty feet tall it must endure the Large Missile test. For buildings over thirty feet, it must pass the Small Missile Test. This test involves a cannon firing ten steel balls at a speed of eighty-nine miles per hour at the window. Unlike the Large Missile Test, this only needs to be passed once.

The Best Hurricane Windows and Doors Miami Has to Offer

By making your windows and doors stronger, you not only protect them but you also make your entire building stronger as well. When windows or doors break down during a storm, the sudden influx of pressure can cause severe damage to your house. If your house is whole, the wind won’t be able to do as much damage as if there was a crack, break, or hole. At Florida Engineered Glass Corp we offer and showcase one of the largest selections of doors and windows in all of the Miami area. Our services include fabrication and installation of storefronts, curtain walls, sliding glass doors, windows, impact, and non-impact systems, glass partitions, aluminum and glass doors, retrofits and we’ll even custom design products to fit your needs.
