24-HR HURRICANE AND BURGLARY PROTECTION
Install our custom-designed hurricane windows and obtain 24-hour hurricane protection, avoiding the hassle of putting up and taking down storm panels. With our lines of windows and doors you not only obtain hurricane protection, you also protect yourself and your family against burglaries. Hurricane windows are built with a PVB interlayer sealed in between two layers of glass which makes break-ins difficult.
IMPROVED ENERGY-EFFICIENT WINDOWS
Drop your utility bills and realize important electrical savings by installting our impact-resistant products. Hurricane windows and doors are built of heavy-duty aluminum frame with double glazing panes which make the windows much more energy efficient. Today, homeowners prefer large panoramic openings that can provide uninterrupted views. However, this architectural trend comes at an increased utility bill due to the greater sun exposures. Large single-glazed windows allow heat or cold transfer from the outside to the inside of the property. In contrast, impact windows provide excellent insulating capabilities, helping isolate interior spaces from the outdoor weather changes and contributing to important utility bill savings.
INSURANCE PREMIUM DISCOUNTS
According to Florida Statute 627.0629 on residential property insurance, homeowners insurance providers are required to “provide savings to consumers who install or implement windstorm damage mitigation techniques, alterations, or solutions to their properties to prevent windstorm losses.” As a matter of course, this includes impact windows and doors in Miami, among other “windstorm damage mitigation techniques.”policyholders can obtain up to 45% premium discounts.
Approved by Miami-Dade County, our impact-resistant windows and doors are made of high-grade aluminum framing built to last for a long time and designed to withstand the Florida climate.

TYPICAL REQUIREMENTS TO OBTAIN A PERMIT FOR INSTALLING WINDOWS AND DOORS
Most municipalities require more or less the same type of information to issue a permit for replacing windows and doors. The City of Coral Gables, for example, requires the following information in order to process and approve a building permit for replacing windows and doors:
- Photos of the property, which cannot be Polaroids and taken in black & white.
- Two copies of the Product Control Approval. All letters in the product control approval must be 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches and all drawings must be 11 inches by 17 inches.
- Two copies of the site specific wind-load calculations signed and sealed by an engineer for the openings where the windows or doors are to be installed.
- Two copies of the full floor plan and elevations drawn at 1/4 inch to 1 foot scale.
- If the windows and/or doors to be installed will not be located in the existing openings, or the size of the opening is being altered, then submittal must be made to the Board of Architects.
HOW CAN YOU OBTAIN A PERMIT?
You don’t have to worry about the hassle of obtaining a building permit. Florida Engineered Glass is a licensed glass & glazing specialty contractor of the State of Florida and will obtain the permit for you if you agree to do so in our quote. We have our structural engineers who will make all the necessary drawings and wind-load calculations to submit a complete application to the corresponding municipality.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO OBTAIN A PERMIT?
The turn-around time to pull a permit varies significantly from municipality to municipality. Once we submit a complete permit package, it takes us between 1 to 4 weeks to obtain a building permit approved. Sometimes, the process can take longer if permit reviewers have comments about a drastic change in style between the existing windows and the proposed new windows. Each municipality has its own turn-around time and its specific workflow process.
